Chatelaines
Chatelaine jewelry came into fashion as the result of a more domestic piece of accessory.
The early Chateline was a must have for anyone in charge of a household or any establishment.
Hence the term “Keeper Of The Keys”, which is from the medieval times when keys to any important place were worn around the waist of the person in charge.
Later it became a chain of holdings such as scissors, a sewing kit, a coin purse, a scent bottle, and watch and key.
Chatelaines were made from gold, pinchbeck, silver, silver plate, stamped metal, and cut steel.
A piece of jewelry that is of two or more separate parts and held together by chains is a Chatelaine.
They are rather hard to find in good condition with the chains still intact.
