What Is Vintage Jewelry?
Vintage Jewelry should never be thought of as "costume" jewelry.
From the late 1700's right up through the 1950's and early 60's, but especially diring the 1930's through the 1940's, jewelry was made with the finest of materials that could be had.
Good and timeless base metals such as copper, pewter, and rhodium were the norm with all jewelry makers .
The best of stones-a good example being the Eisenberg line. The early pieces were all set in sterling with top grade Austrian stones from the firm of Swarovski in the Tyrol region of Austria.
Jet is another example of a natural and rare stone right from the earth. Jet is a fossilized material from the same mineral we know as coal. It has the look and commands the prices of black diamonds.
Many companies used real stones of a lesser grade than what was accepted in the standard world of "real jewels" flawed or seconds of everything could be crushed and much smaller pieces used to make many fine pieces of rhinestone and colored stone jewelry.
The fact that many thousands of pieces still exist today after being worn and used for 50 to a hundred years can only confirm that these beauties are made from a much better grade of materials than what we know today to be "costume" jewelry.
A collection or a single piece of Vintage jewelry is a very good investment to ones jewelry chest and to our desire to own beautiful and functional things.
